Backup of DOORS Database.

Hi All,

I am trying to take the back up of DOORS Database.
In the Admin manual located here for linux machine:
http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/rsdp/v1r0m0/topic/com.ibm.help.download.doors.doc/pdf92/Backing_up_Rational_DOORS.pdf

I found the script lvm.txt to backup DOORS Database.

I have few questions on this.

1). What is difference between archival and snapshot backup?
- I have already implemented nightly archival using a dxl script.
2). I didn’t get the meaning of these variables.
a). # Volume group that contains the logical volume
VOLUME_GROUP=VolGrp01
b). # Logical volume to be snapped
BACKUP_VOLUME=LogVol01
c). # Name of backup volume
NAME=backup
d). # Where to mount the snapshot, it is this we will then back up,
# be aware that any backup will have this path so a restore will
# need to be relocated to the appropriate location
BACKUP_MOUNT=/backup/mount/point

Can you please suggest about this?

Thanks and Regards,
Aj

lvm.txt Script is:
lvm.txt
#!/bin/sh

  1. Script for creating Linux LVM snapshots of DOORS for
  2. backup - this script can be adapted for HP-UX.

  1. Location of DOORS start/stop script
DOORS_SCRIPT=/opt/DOORS_9.1/startStopStatus.sh

  1. Volume group that contains the logical volume
VOLUME_GROUP=VolGrp01 #has to be taken care.

  1. Logical volume to be snapped
BACKUP_VOLUME=LogVol01 #has to be taken care.

  1. Amount of space to allocate to the snapshot to buffer the
  2. changes on the live volume. This is commonly 10-20% of the
  3. size of the original volume depending on useage. The following
  4. would assign 10 gigabytes.
SIZE=10G
  1. Name of backup volume
NAME=backup #has to be taken care.
  1. Where to mount the snapshot, it is this we will then back up,
  2. be aware that any backup will have this path so a restore will
  3. need to be relocated to the appropriate location
BACKUP_MOUNT=/backup/mount/point
